Crozier + Christie’s Sea Freight Initiative Battles Climate Change

Crozier + Christies Sea Freight Initiative

Crozier and Christie’s are pioneering an initiative to significantly reduce the carbon footprint associated with artwork transportation. This program  represents an 80% reduction in impact compared to standard air freight shipments. The long term objective is to create a fleet of custom-designed  sea containers to transport artwork internationally. Initially, the service is offered on a monthly basis between London and New York, with bi-monthly runs between London and Hong Kong. Each container is 60% dedicated for use by Christie’s, with remaining space available for consolidated Crozier client shipments.

The average sailing time for regular shipments is 10 days between London and New York and 30 days between London and Hong Kong.

Crozier has worked for more than a decade to reduce its energy use and has prioritized recycling, sourcing sustainable materials from ecologically-minded suppliers, and working to consolidate shipping. Crozier’s specially developed, highly monitored secure containers address identified risks that are crucial for the transportation of artworks.

“At Crozier, we are determined to pursue our commitment towards a greener future and will continue to spearhead a series of measures to lead  in addressing the global climate crisis. The environmental impact of arts logistics is a well-known industry-wide issue. It requires ongoing leadership, collaboration and engagement from the organizations that are a part of our  ecosystem, so we’re pleased to partner with Christie’s on this important effort.” concluded Simon Hornby, Senior VP & General Manager, Crozier Europe.
