APAA Advisors Support Giving All Year Long

APAA member Victoria Burns with members of the VIA Art Fund

APAA members are broadly committed to supporting the arts both internationally and in their communities. APAA member Victoria Burns partners with VIA Art Fund, an organization that emphasizes direct engagement with contemporary art and supports projects that exemplify its core values of artistic production, thought leadership, and public engagement. Partnering directly with artists, curators and cultural institutions around the world, VIA Art Fund patrons support innovative artistic endeavors in various forms, from the production of new work for exhibition and institutional acquisition, to symposia, educational programs, publications and scholarly journals.

The Sugar Hill Project is an apartment complex designed by Sir David Adjaye that includes a preschool and a children's museum that is the cultural heart of Upper Manhattan’s Sugar Hill district. Wendy Cromwell's work as a board member supports the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling’s vibrant artist in residence program, where participating artists engage with Sugar Hill's pre-school students. Former AIRs include Derek Fourdjour, David Schrobe, Leslie Jimenez and Damian Davis, to name a few. Every weekend, the museum hosts storytelling and workshops, providing direct arts access to the New York community.

Four APAA members — Elizabeth Fiore, Suzanne Gyorgy, Suzanne Lemakis and Elizabeth Szancer — are on the board of the New York’s Fountain House Gallery and Studio which is currently hosting its on-line small works show of 6” x 6” artwork for less than $100. Providing an environment where artists living with mental illness can express their creative visions, Fountain House has made a vital contribution to the New York arts community as it challenges the stigma surrounding mental illness. The work of these APAA members on the advisory board has supplied hundreds of artists with the resources, training, inspiration and support they need to succeed in the highly competitive art world.

Christina Shearman’s work with South Asian Youth Action. SAYA helps provide educational equity and social resources to underserved NYC youth, fostering a community of empowerment and cultural engagement. As a founder and advisory board member, Chrissie has organized charity auctions to support SAYA, as well as Chelsea art tours for students who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to view art in a gallery setting.
